Referring to this map...
Is it correct that only the green lines on the map are legal for motorcycles and that the red lines are restricted..ie NOT legal for motorised vehicles? If so, why are the red lines included? Also it appears that the salter fell road is not a byway according to the map?
Am I missing something?

looking at this I would say its a waste of time. Your better of marking up of the trf maps. You can diy by reading the OS maps index. Adventure bike rider has a good introduction to map reading. Last issue No 45 & this issue No 46. Try using HIKIDEAS. If you zoom in it becomes memory map. Takes a little getting used to, but Is all I use now. Good luck.

Salter fell, if I remember rightly, is only legal for bikes, not 4x4s
